I'm currently 40 years old...seems kinda surreal...feel like I'm much younger all the time. I was officially diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when I was 28. I've been married for 9 years and have three kids ages 8, 6 and 3...Girl, boy, girl. My wife is 11 years younger than I am.

With the initial diagnosis of AS, also came Major Depression, Social Anxiety Disorder and ADHD. Needless to say, I didn't take it very well as the diagnosis was preceded such rage and confusion as I tried with all my might to figure out what was causing me to always be the way I was. Often times it felt as if I kept running into a wall inside my head as I tried to make friends my own age. I was always awkward when I was younger but I thought I would, or should, have either grown out of it or figured it out by the time I was 26 or so... everyone else around seemed to. But I continued to bang my head against this wall inside my mind because I knew "what" to do and even "how" to do it after observing and watching people all my life...I just couldn't.
Eventually I went to see a social worker who specialized in children with autism and he pretty much confirmed the AS symptoms and diagnostic criteria and referred me to a psychiatrist who did the same. That was 12 years ago. Let's just say I've through quite a lot in the past 12 years...

Thanks for listening.
