Welcome To the Autism Forums, Lily !

You've likely come to the right place to compare and explore your autism with others here. And hopefully no longer feel trapped in a world all your own. That despite us being an eclectic group, that we have any number of traits, behaviors and sensitivities in common.

Thank you so much for your warm welcome . Im already more at ease to know I can be myself. Your correct by saying I feel trapped in the world by myself . I’m sure I’m not the only one .That’s the reason I joined autism forums.com
As I said in my introduction I’m looking forward to meeting like minded people and hopefully making friends :)

It is comforting to know despite the occasional hostility of the outside world, that our own kind understand on a level not always easily explained.

I totally agree… It can unwittingly feel cruel out there can’t it ? I like a good deep and meaningful chat at times it’s not classed as socially acceptable , and as you say people of our own kind get that with no judgements that theirs something wrong with me .

For the longest time I didn't even know how to explain me to myself. Just having a weird sense of always feeling like I was outside of everyone, looking in. It wasn't until I was 55 that I began to unravel the mystery.

I've come away with these considerations of existing as an autistic adult:

1) There will always be a very few who will understand and succeed.
2) There will be a few more wanting to understand who will fail.
3) Leaving the vast majority indifferent to who we are, insisting or demanding that we conform to the neurological majority even when we mentally and physically can't/

And that ultimately for many of us, informing much of anyone of our neurological status is best considered on a "need-to-know" basis only. When as much as we want to explain ourselves to others, that even those in your closest social orbit may shock you with a less-then-cordial response.

Hello there! Welcome! :)
What is it you like doing in your free time? Any hobbies?
I have loads of special interests. I’m Autistic and adhd so that changes often haha . At the moment my hobby is candle making … but pick a subject and it’s probably been my hobby at some point haha . How about you ? What are your hobbies?

I can relate… I knew I was different to my peers but back in the 80s and 90s girls didn’t have Autism in the eyes of society … it was a boy thing. I was diagnosed with Autism and combined adhd at 41 .
I’m 45 now and still finding myself .

Always a good subject for discussion here. The experience of autistic girls and women as opposed to men. And how they continue to go "under the radar" of medical professionals.

Living in Nevada, I often get the impression the public thinks of autism as also only a children's "disease". As if we magically turn 18 and officially no longer have autism.

Heh my boyfriend is AuDHD so I can relate.

Oooohh candle making! Any photos? I remember I was watching some candle-making videos on Youtube, they are sooo relaxing. They were cutting the levels of colored wax from the candle to show levels hidden underneath. Very ASMR :)

These days I'm into textual roleplay, photography, some handheld console gaming and eating :D
Can't wait for the warmer days to come back, so I can be more active and go hiking again.
