Wagner:
Wagner is the only musical composer who people have continuously loved and nearly worshipped since they first premiered and continues to this day. For good, evil and anything in between his mythology, ideology, music, and philosophy inspired philosophers, writers, and thinkers in ways perhaps few other artists can match. People admire Mozart. They love Wagner.
Shakespeare
Whatever could and has been said about Shakespeare (which is nearly everything), he was the greatest poet who ever lived writing in this or any other language.
Klimt
Paintings by their nature are always going to be subjective. I am honestly not as much of a fan as you might think; but there is logic behind my choice. For starters Klimt proved he was an absolute master in a variety of styles, from ceilings, large scale paintings, realistic portraitures, modernism, and vanguard art. He was basically impeccable in all these mediums. Leaving the thinking man to assume he could have done greatness and pushed boundaries in any of the styles that were open to him. Also, he was considered one of if not the greatest living artist during his career. His work has never attracted much criticism, and today his artwork at auction would fetch amongst the highest prices in the world. That is a standard of appreciation that may not be matched by any other painter in history.
Bernini
6.0, 6.0, 6.0, 6.0, 6.0
Yes, he is my nominee for the greatest artist who ever lived.
Michelangelo
I don't know what is going to happen in the next 10,000 years. But if somehow the Vatican survives, and if miraculously the Sistine Chapel has been upkept to look anything like it looks today; then it will be considered one of the great artworks of all mankind. I am not sure that is something I can say about any other work of art.
