Really liked his work as the frontman of the Lovin' Spoonful. He later had a solo number-one hit with the theme song to Welcome Back, Kotter.

He also appeared at Woodstock. It was pouring down that day, and Santana didn't wanna get fried, so John hopped on for a bit to do an unplugged acoustic performance despite not being in the advertised line-up of musicians, performing songs from his then unreleased upcoming album.

Apparently, he was tripping on acid, which he seemed to be okay about in subsequent interviews. :D

The LSD might have improved the performance.

He's a very talented guy. They're kind of forgotten now, but had some great hits and album tracks. Brian Wilson admired him, too, which certainly says something.
