And hello to everyone. I'm new to the forum and still have my restrictions on!

I'm 42, and I just learned what Asperger's was last year and it explains a lot! I guess I have been managing the hard way! I've had several ups and downs in life - yeah, life can be a roller coaster - but the last few years have been pretty good. And learning about AS is one of the most amazing things to have happened to me. It explains so much.

I wish that I could proudly tell people about my Aspergers, but, because of the negative stigmas associated with it, I tell very few people. I would like to help change public opinions, as I think of Aspergers as a positive thing. I dislike reading about it being a "disability" or a defect... I really believe the positive aspects outweigh the negative. It is what made me who I am, and I would never want to be without it.

Hi Cynthia,
I feel exactly as you do. I just found out less than a year ago, and I feel freed and positive about my differences. It is a good thing as it is just a way to describe how certain people act. It is no different than being conservative or religious. Do not be ashamed, be proud and delight in the fact that you know, and that you see the world as it is. You are among family here, as we understand what you have gone through, and how you gfeel. Always here when you need one of us.
Peace

Hi Cynthia! Welcome to Aspies Central.

Your intro really made me smile :) Thank you for that. I'm glad that you don't see AS as a setback, but rather something to be proud of. We're a unique group of individuals with many great qualities to offer.

As Peace and Oscar have already mentioned, there are so many amazing members to talk to if you ever need anything; we are indeed like a close-knit family. Feel free to post often with any questions, concerns, or insights you have. Hope you enjoy all we have to offer here.
