I have a question - Why did it take so long for people to settle america or is it historical blank spots ? (mixed history \ Ice age brake off)

what changed around that time.
Better maps, ship building, science, belief's. why then ? ~guessing 17th cent maybe - :confused:

Also what about lower Mexico, why didn't they want it ? :p
