I live on the Antrim/Kalkaska county line.....

I feel like it's already been January and
that month doesn't even start for another
hour...

Guilty as charged. Not to mention the older I get, the less tolerant I seem to be of the cold, as opposed to much warmer weather that I still enjoy.

I also hate driving in snow for the most part, except when I get caught at the very beginning of snowfall appearing on my windshield.

The good news? No snow (so far) at my elevation, but plenty in the Sierras. When the snowpack melts and becomes our most basic source of water. Without the snow we'd be in a world of hurt.

i love winter. i love the cold. i hate summer, summer has nothing good about it (except my birthday). 'oh but it's sunny out and warm!!!' it's like 85 degrees and humid and our home traps heat which is great for the winter when we got the furnace or fireplace on but in the summer? that just means it's gonna be like 80 degrees in our house at night and we don't have central air and it's just awful.

I use a box fan in a window to blow cool night air through my house, and it does a great job. On the hottest days, I'll cover the south windows with reflective insulation.

The year I moved here from a mild climate, we had the most snow in 50 years, but it seemed normal to me. During one storm, I wondered why the store clerks were discussing an early closing.

I can't say that I hate winter. Certainly don't like it when it's -40C with the windchill but that's only a handful of days. But I'll take those over the +30C with the humidex days of summer that are becoming too frequent where I'm at. I can always put on more layers in the Winter to warm up. I can only get so naked in the summer to cool down.

In the past I despised winter, but that was because I didn't really do anything other than just hide from the cold. Once I got proper outdoor winter gear and started snowshoeing, then skiing, and hiking I've really come to love the winter. Walking through the woods or a field just after a snowfall is always neat. Seeing all the tracks of the critters big and small that have been through.

Honestly I think the best time of year is later Summer/Early fall. When the weather is warm enough during the day to wear shorts and a tshirt, but then at night you want a hoodie or a light jacket, but you can still keep the shorts. Now that, is a glorious time of the year.

I enjoy getting out into the white. Snowshoeing or XC-skiing I work enough to keep Warm.

I really don't want to derail this thread with this question but I think the answer is useful to all. I notice you've got yourself a North Face jacket. I've personally never tried that brand out before, do you find it is worth the price point? I just worry about the long term durability when I'm buying an expensive winter jacket.

It is actually a rain jacket that in winter, serves as a windproof shell. It is a heavier fabric with Gore Tex and an inner mesh liner. It has served me well for at least 30 years, so I guess the cost was worth it.

I don't mind it too much, although towards the end (around the end of March) I just want it to be over with.

I sleep better in winter, so I feel better overall. And it's cozy. I can't explain it. The other day I looked out my window as the sun was setting. Everything was white and the sky was purple and pink and blue. It was peaceful.

These days are way too short. I need sunshine to function. I am depressed due to cold icy weather and lack of sunshine.

Winter sucks.

So I created a poll about it.
Me too!

I love summer. That is the season where I feel free, where I can do things without the misery of being cold. I never feel hot, even in 100+ temperatures. Just feels good to me.

Thank you @Metalhead for all your polls. I think they are great!
