How to get a job as a cashier/waitress with no experience?

I keep reading this is one thing you can do if you need extra money, but I don't know how to begin. I did work as a cashier/waitress, but that was a decade ago and I have since took the experience off my resume. Also, my impression is you have to be a people person and I'm just not sure I am.
 
I managed to make it as a cashier/retail wage slave for a number of years. I cannot imagine being a restaurant server, given all one has to balance in one's head and having the requisite "people skills" I imagine might be necessary to make enough in tips to earn a living wage. I think you could easily make it in retail, as there is almost always a set script you can utilize. Maybe look up tips on interviewing? The jobs are out there, and you can get them.
 
Sorry, I should've been more specific. I think I'm more curious about the kind of resume you'd submit if you're looking for a part-time (night or weekend shifts) job. People seem to want to get out of cashier/waiter/retail position because they're "entry level," but my 8-to-5 office job isn't enough for me and I don't do much outside of work anyway.

Best way is to approach companies who are so short staffed they'll take on almost anybody to fill their vacancies.
 
It really depends on the company and the area.

Here in Michigan even Cashiers are required to have a few years of that experience, same goes for Waitressing

I've seen plenty of signs in the Metro Detroit area looking for experienced (Yes the word is normally bold and underlined) Cashiers and Waitresses
