How to explain AS to friends? Resources?

JuniperBug

I'm looking for something easy and general and hopefully positive that I could give to my friends when I tell them I have Aspergers.

I recently told my good friend and he knew nothing about it and I've been looking for something short and informative to share with him. I'm thinking along the lines of a flow chart, comic, video, or podcast.

What do you do, say, show, or recommend when you clue in new people?

I only once or twice had to do this, and I told them that is was a mild form of autism. I tell people that I have difficulty with social communication, especially in groups, but I don't have learning disabilities. I tell people that I'm very sensitive to sound and that I don't like a lot of background noise, I get tired easily and need a lot of time to myself to rest. I often perceive things a bit diiferently to others, but I have an above average intelligence and a good memory.

I think it's best if you tell the person which ways it affects you personally, both the negative and the positive, because everyone on the spectrum is different.
