How do you trick yourself?

I like to start each day with a challenge.

Each night, I take off my slippers and put them together ready for the next day.
I make sure to put the right one on the left side and the left one on the right side.
So when I get up my slippers are my first challenge of the day.

Obviously I am quite happy to wear them on the wrong feet, I like the extra quirky walk it gives me.

How do you trick yourself or set yourself challenges?

I keep a pair of flip- flops by my bed. Right one on the right side and left one on the left
so I can just step into them.
My challenge is to get out of bed for breakfast instead of falling back to sleep!

yep!

If I want to challenge myself in the morning, I put the jar of coffee on the next shelf up. Then I'll spend ages trying to find it :)

When I was still in school I'd have my alarm clock on my dresser the other side of my room so I'd have to get up and walk all that way to turn it off... it was quite the trek just to shut that thing off... a whole 10 or so feet, if you can believe it! Maybe Gandalf will visit me on my 50th birthday for another such adventure :p

Remember children

The best part of any challenges you set for yourself

Is forgetting that you've done it.

That second of how you feel when you remember.
Is a great reminder of how much and what we think of ourselves is a choice.

That's the real journey, that putting my slippers down on the wrong side, tricks me into.

Not only do you make us smile, but you make yourself too. There's only one explanation: you are made of smiles.

Deduc(k)ing from the fact that you called us children, you must be Slippery Santa. Oh I know it by the noise you make trying to hang on to the roof of my house before going down the chimney, by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!

Had my hair cut to mid-length. Now the challenge is how to wash my face, brush my teeth, cycle or work without the hair sticking in my eyes or being plastered to my face as it's just long enough to irritate. It's not long enough to be in a reasonable ponytail, or will stay in a hair band. Should I use hair clips, bobby pins, tiny braids, tiny elastics, combs? I wonder how long it will take for my patience to wear thin and decide that although it looks nice, it's impractical.

When I worked I kept my alarm clock 15 minutes ahead and when I'd wake up I always believed that was the time and would get up feeling like I needed to rush. Then once I was completely awake I'd remember I'd have an extra fifteen minutes to sit and write before starting my day. It's not quite as entertaining as yours, but I always enjoyed the extra fifteen minutes. :)

I'd try something now but it'd be too easy to trick myself. lol

You ever set fire to your hair?
I did.

Wondering what that smell once.
It kind of frizzles doesn't give off big flames.

Had hair down to my backside once, and some was too close to one of those heaters thay blows hot air.

But your hair sounds too stressful to read about, never mind have on your head.

Being daft is where it's at.

Knowing that I was forgetting details for any particular day, a put a chair at the top of the stairs in my bedroom. On the chair I left a note in big letters: "Bring 35 cents to school". I was in the third grade and I already knew I would forget dates and details for special events or activities. I believe that was my first attempt at thwarting ADD, but I was already aware that I forget things often. Today, I always stop before leaving the house to reflect on anything I need to bring or notes to check before dealing with any excursion.

I also did what Isadoorian did with the alarm clock across the room - the annoying buzz would get me out of bed.

I use routines.
For example I get up at 515
take a shower
get dressed
Take 2 Ibuprofen for my knees and feet.
Drive to work - Leaving between 530 and 540
get to work between 545 and 555
get my coffee and start work at 600
Once I get home I do my chores and then have a shower as a ritual to transition between work and "My time"

My alarm clock is VERY loud and Annoying.
cell phone alarms don't cut it for me.
Unless it's somebody else's cell phone.

Often tapping out 2 handed keyboard parts with my fingers on my knees or desk or whatever. WIth the sounds playing in my head, trying to practice synchronizing the two properly, it helps me when I get back to the real instrument.
