How can I find an Autistic Obsession/Special Interest?

I've never found one, they always just happen. I'll listen to a song I've heard many times and suddenly that band becomes my special interest.

I'll see something, hear about something, read about something and all of a sudden click bam it becomes a special interest.

Some or many have a life long singular special interest. Mine get replaced by another one eventually.

I thought your special interest was ships.

I tend to believe that special interests find me because I don’t have the ability to make myself like something.

Cool to see that we have the same questions and same answer, I was wondering how I can make my self realy interested into something... And just like Adora and Erza answered well I can't realy make it happen...it happens without doing it on purpose.

I always liked toy cars when I was little. Give me a Hot Wheel and I was good for days...
When I grew up they just grew up with me... Yet today, I don't push them around, they propel me around.
Or I hope I don't have to push one... These big Hot Wheels are heavy. : )

Mostly other than that the special interest just kind of come to me like the others said... I love music, writing, learning, reading, numbers, finding patterns, research... I kind of have TOO MANY special interest, so I have problems at the other end of this "spectrum" you are curious over.

Just think about it... what do you like? Do you like to cook? Do you like to read, write... ?
Its in there, and my guess you will find it, OR it will find you... : )

Live life and they will find you.

Every single one of my special interests happened when I least expected it. For example, my son was in hospital for 3 months, so I coped by taking photos and found I was really comfortable behind the lens. Photography has been with me ever since. I had severe postnatal depression, so I coped by studying neuroscience, that's still with me. I read to my children every night, I got interested in writing children's books (they were SO BORING!). I was asked to "help out" at the school fete (groan), then I discovered face painting, which is awesome!

So I would suggest doing really mundane things. Get a saturday job at a drama school, join a book club, volunteer for a community event, join a free museum tour, stuff like that. Eventually your special interests
will find you.

actually doing sports is addictive even if you don't like it initially and can easily become a hobby

I don't think I ever really sought out a special interest, they've always been with me. FREX I have a life-long interest in history, ever since I was a kid (when the Berlin Wall fell, I was at home watching CNN instead of being out playing, because it was a momentous historical event...), as well as lifelong interests in tabletop gaming. I have other interests that come & go, for which I'll dive into with a singular focus until I've gotten all I could out of it, but those core interests I mentioned have never left me.

I don't find interests, they find me! But you don't have to have one. Best not to try to force one, wait for one to happen, and if it doesn't, it really doesn't matter.

Are you on wrong planet? I already found a special interest thanks for telling.
