Hi. Obviously new. :)

Blane

Active Member
I'm awful at starting things like this..so I guess I'll try my best? Haha.

My name's Blane. No i.
I'm 17 (18 in just under 3 weeks! :D)
I was officially diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome in 6th grade (early 2009), and I'll be a senior in high school in the fall.
Was originally unmedicated after finding out, but life caught up and I was put on Adderall in early 2012, and I take it every day.

That's pretty much it, i guess. :)

Hi. How does Adderall affect the issues they think the ASD is causing. Are they combining the Adderall with any other drugs?

It is not combined with anything else. I am on it to help with focus, mainly for school (I'm quite smart, like they say most Aspies are, but I tend to be very unorganized and distracted, or get bored with my work. Ex: I'll do a math assignment 100% correct, but I get distracted and forget to turn it in, so I won't get credit for it, OR I'll just get sick of doing the same type of problem over and over and just don't want to do it anymore. Thankfully, I get two extra days for assignments to be handed in because of my IEP.) But they didn't want me to have to start/stop between summer and the school year, so I also take it in the summer, just to keep it in routine. It also helps with me actually being productive in a day instead of constantly having a crabby attitude over not feeling motivated to do something.

So you'll be managing on your own that drug while you are college. The college won't give you any leeway I would think with deadlines, or have times changed that much. Well for me i hit the jackpot; unorganized, easily distracted and not to smart. Now if only good looks would have followed. No such luck, but coping enough.
Adderall has such a bad rap.

Oh I know that, I have the two extra days as a barrier. I don't always use or need it. I've been working on handing things in on time.

I think we all could use personal assistants to keep us in line, other than our mothers of course.

Hi,
It sounds to me like you just get bored of repetition in school and move on to something different to satisfy your need for stimulation.
Happy to have you and looking forward to talking.

Somewhat like that, I guess. I'm a huge person on routine but I get bored super easily, which is a problem when I don't feel challenged enough.

Hey Blane, first of all: Welcome to AC!
Great to see some people joining of the same age. (17 now, still 9 months till I'm 18)

Yes, this sounds just like me. And especially the bored part :) Had a lot of problems with that last year, I think next year will be even worse :(
Nice to meet you :D

I take strattera every day. I guess it's pretty much the same as yours. It helps me concentrate in school. Lol I've never missed a day taking it since 1st grade when I was disgnosed with aspergers and ADHD/ADD. I also take mine in the summer, for the same reason as yours.
