Hello :) I'm Amber and I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome a few years ago. I've been trying to fight it for some time, but I've been getting rather lonely recently and pretending to be normal isn't working out quite as well as it used to! I'm hoping I can get involved with this forum and find people to talk to who understand :)

Welcome Amber. We all have our lonely moments but I sure when you meet new people here you won't feel that way anymore.

Welcome to AC! Lots of great folks here, make sure to check out the chatroom if your into that kind of thing, great place to vent or deal with issues with others that have or are experiencing the same thing. Mike

Thank you! I've just been getting quite stressed recently, because I'm moving to the other end of the country to go to university and I don't know anyone at all :s I'll try and go in the chatroom at some point, I'm a bit of a scaredy cat though!

none of us bite, promise. Most all of us, me included, have been in those places where we dont fit and get trampled on. That doesnt happen here.

Welcome. It's always hard having to adapt to new surroundings, but I'm glad you found us! I always liked having an online community (usually playing mmorpgs) because then it doesn't matter where you go, as long as you have an internet connection you've got your friends. :grinning:

Thanks folks. Id be glad to paint most anything. I don't usually paint people though. I'm going to try to paint Amber's avatar. I love the colors. Taking requests always.

Well, theres no reason to pretend to be anything, I leave all pretense and pretend to the people that can or will not live without it. I prefer to go about my days as I am. Welcome.

Hi Amber,
Glad you found us. I like what Chisleu said about having your friends with you. I feel more comfortable with the people here than most of the people in my daily life. This is a good place to be, and it helps having people who understand us.

Thank you again, you're all so lovely - it was such a nice surprise when I checked the thread earlier! I'd love to see the painting if you do paint my avatar Rocco :)

"Fighting it" is something I hope you will no longer feel is necessary after reading some of the posts/resources here and elsewhere. Being different isn't something you have to change. Working to fit in better in social situations can seem like "pretending to be normal," and in some situations it can be important/necessary (e.g., (at work or parties or social events where people aren't familiar with ASD). However, at the end of the day, I believe all of us need to be comfortable with who we are. There is nothing "wrong" with being on the spectrum. It may present a few challenges to be overcome (as does being neurotypical for that matter), but you will soon see, there are plenty others here with whom you will have things in common.
