Hello everybody. I'm newly diagnosed after an alphabet soup of diagnoses stretching back three decades. Still reeling a bit. Glad to have found what I hope is a safe place to explore this before gambling my next job on my limited ability to blend in and pass for "normal." Whatever that is!
 
Welcome to AC. Yes indeed, lots to explore here, and a safe place to learn more about yourself through others who you may find have much in common. Still, I think self-awareness is our best tool for dealing with this. I didn't become aware until much later....into my late 50s. Better late than never though!
 
Thank you! I am going through the period of "painfully self-aware"--constantly thinking about how to use the rules from a book I read--either Simone or Grandin--"Fitting in is about looking and sounding as though you fit in." I do pretty well until the meltdown happens. I can't explain that to people.

The operative words here being "looking and sounding" as though you fit in. In my own case I can do it more often than not, however it's usually a process which leaves me emotionally (and sometimes physically) exhausted. But then hey...it's all I've ever known anyways.

At least now I can put a name and a purpose to it all. It helps.

As for traits and behaviors, sadly most people are not likely to understand. Some will try, others will simply fail and many others will either be indifferent, or outright expect you to conform to their neurology.
