Hi there; I’m so glad to have stumbled upon this site! :) Some facts about me: I’m 43, married with kids, living in the US bible-belt though I’m not religious, love the ocean so much I believe I evolved from it and I love creatures that are considered gross like bats. I also enjoy manipulating play-doh, reading non-fiction books and magazines, and watching Netflix, more specifically stand-up comedy, sci-fi and crime series. Right now, I’m engrossed in gardening and Aspergers. I identify most with my 15 year old cat, who for the first time this spring, faced his fear and stepped out onto the back porch to enjoy some fresh air.

For my whole life, I’ve always felt different and as a kid, I suffered from a lot of phobias. This led to years of bullying from peers, teachers, even my own family, so I coped by developing major social anxiety. It wasn’t until a couple years ago through meeting someone with aspergers, that whistles blew and bells rang THIS IS ME! I began devouring books on the subject and have taken numerous tests over the last two years, all of which return with the same result, an Aspie. I most interested in hearing the perspectives of others, aspie and also NT’s as I’m married to one, and we are trying to understand one another better. I am also considering a formal diagnosis because I’d like the validation but I do have trust issues when it comes to humans.

Looking forward to learning from you all!

Hi LookingforMe :)

Hi LookingforMe, welcome. Yes that discovery phase resonates with me, it's been helpful to understand about the autistic spectrum and how it fits for me. Wow your cat has taken a brave step too! I hope you enjoy it here and find plenty of useful information and threads to read and respond to. I think hearing how others experience this and cope is very helpful and interesting.
