Hi all!

I have to say that I am not really sure if I should be on here as I'm seriously confused as to whether I have aspergers or not...there are so many things which seem to fit when I read about adult aspergers in females...but then I don't really fit the profile on the online tests (I scored 30 on the AQ test, but a longer test said I was NT).

I'm hoping to be able to find some answers on here so may ask you lovely people for help and advice :)

Hi!

Autism really isn't a one-size-fits-all kind of deal. You may express some symptoms but not others. The online tests are meant to guide you in the right direction. And even when the diagnosis is confirmed by a medical professional, no two people with autism will be exactly the same. For what it's worth, I'm diagnosed, but the online tests have given me mixed results.

Enjoy your time here! :)

Thanks for the welcome :) I just found the site aspergirls.wordpress.com and a list of things commonly experienced by adult women with Aspergers- I identified with so many of them! http://aspergersgirls.wordpress.com/2012/03/31/day-62-females-with-aspergers-syndrome-nonofficial-checklist/

I work in the disability support sector and began to suspect that I could have Aspergers through my research to help my clients, who didn't fit my preconceived idea of how Aspergers presents, but who had diagnoses nonetheless. It would kind of make sense too as I have a brother who is autistic, dyslexic and dyspraxic, and another two brothers who are dyslexia and dyspraxic (there seems to be a big overlap with dyspraxia and ASD).

Welcome MPG..

I too am a female adult (31) with AS. Can't say I display all characteristics 100% but I display a lot of them. I hear what Ur saying though because at first I didn't really believe the dx because I compared myself to other known Aspies or against a full list of symptoms and thought that if didn't compare 100% then the dx must be wrong.

I've since learnt that the dx helps explain they ways that I DO experience life and DO act and think ... and therefore it can provide me strategies to exist more comfortably and that's good enough for me :)
