Hashimoto's and ASD

Has anyone seen the recent research regarding autoimmune Thyroiditis and Autistic spectrum? I am a 53 year old man with Aspergers and Hashimoto's. My mother had Autoimmune Thyroiditis while pregnant. Anyone else?

I've seen some of that research, at best there is a weak link between several parental autoimmune disorders and children of those parents being on the spectrum. Slightly higher if it is the mother who has the autoimmune disorder.

More studies need to be done but, if there really is a stronger connection, as some scientists believe there might be, then we'd need to consider the possibilities that opens up, both good and bad.

My mother did have thyroid problems but, I never knew the specifics. I don't have any autoimmune disorders myself nor, any thyroid problems but, there might be a connection there, it's worth watching the research and, could mean any one of several things for ASD in the future.

I don't know about my mother, who is fairly healthy, but I know my grandmother has severe thyroid difficulties, and I have symptoms of Hashimoto's though the standard tests always show the proper hormone levels. I suspect my body isn't processing them properly, but the doctors don't want to order the tests that would show that. May do it myself eventually.

Thyroid problems being relatively common though to individuals on and off spectrum, I'm not really sure how they could definitively identify a connection. Especially since there seems to be speculation that many people who have thyroid issues are undiagnosed.

I've had hypothyroidism since I was 5 or younger. I have never heard of a connection to AS though. Interesting.

Oh God, I knew someone who weighed over 400 pounds because of this disease and had to get WLS to lose the weight. I have no idea if it was entirely the disorder causing his obesity or it together with impulse on to over eat. I hope I never go on to develop something like this.

I have Hashimoto from my 21ste year. My memory is very bad and I am reading books now about Thyriod disease and came to the conclusion it is about imflammation. Very recently I was in relationship therapy and the psychologist, said to my gf to read some books about Asperger, because he thinks I have it. So I googled for Autism and came to the link: http://www.healingthesymptomsknowna...n_as_Autism_SECOND_EDITION_9780989289023s.pdf
I don't know what people here think about it, but it is the same conclusion. I started 3 months ago with no gluten and I am consulting an Functional Medicine doctor. I will let know my progression here! Ciao
