Happy New Year, everyone.
I'm cooking black-eyed peas, cornbread and a mixture of turnip, mustard and collard greens for the traditional southern US meal. Eating it is supposed to bring wealth and good luck in the coming year. The peas represent coins, cornbread represents gold, and the greens represent paper money.
Does anyone else have unusual New Year's traditions?

The tropics... A polar dip used to be an annual tradition for New Year's Day here, it still happens but in February now, still as cold
...

I heard people setting off fireworks at midnight eastern time while the rain was pouring here in SoCal.And I don't live in either of those places... Here on the western side of North America we are one of the last places in the world to celebrate New Year's Eve, but it has all started now...
I came, I saw, didn't really conquer 
But another New Year, I just know I could have done far better with my photography, one anyway... And this is how I like to photograph fireworks
It was kind of a weird night, major traffic issues that distracted me a little, I tried to be too helpful perhaps a couple of times, and distracted myself

A great start last night. Snowed all day long, then the power went out three times. On the third time around 10:45 pm it didn't come back until this morning at 7:00 am. Had to light some candles and get out the transistor radio.
Hopefully the rest of the year will go a bit more smoothly. With no intention of making this a new year's tradition.
