hajimemashite! (hi!)

hi everyone, i just joined today.

i'm a chef/singer/writer/former web designer in her mid-thirties. (yes, i've worn many hats. i still haven't found one that fits.)

i've suspected that i'm autistic for several years now -- it explains so much in my life, from confusing dating/friendship situations to finding employment nervewracking, from the severe depression i've dealt with off-and-on since childhood to the great difficulty i have with household chores and even brushing my teeth -- but am afraid to get a formal diagnosis. i relate so much to other autistic women's descriptions of their lives, regardless.

i think my bf might be on the spectrum too...as this is the easiest relationship i've ever been in, and we struggle with many of the same issues. he gets easily socially overwhelmed, as do i, so we see each other once or twice a week.

i'm looking for advice on negotiating relationships and on finding ways to make daily life easier...i'm kinda running out of ideas. good to meet you all!

Hi I hope you like it here, I think you'll find some useful ideas and information and people here are helpful and funny . I guess a diagnosis isn't for everyone, depends what use it would be to you? This is a good place to discuss that kind of thing. :sailboat:

i'm thinking it might make accessing help and support easier. i live in a country where getting help takes years and sometimes involves proving that you're not able to function AT ALL without support. i'm just barely 'functional' a lot of the time.

The UK is exactly the same!a lot of people in the UK don't get diagnosis until their 20s and quite a few more 40s 50s or 60s and you don't get the support you need unless you're non-verbal and can't really care for yourself . sorry
