My name is Whitney, I go by Desert Blooms online because I live in a desert and love gardening. Desert plants, like myself, have to overcome a lot but are still able to thrive. I guess that's the positive mindset I try to maintain.

I've been "different" my whole life but never understood why. I spent most of my teenage and early adult years wishing fervently I could be "normal" and feeling sorry for myself. I've gotten over that for the most part but sometimes it still hurts, feeling like I just don't quite fit in anywhere. I didn't know about Asperger's until recently. I started reading up on it (because that's what I do; I'm a knowledge junkie) and thought "holy crap, this sounds like me!" The more I read, especially individuals' personal anecdotes... it's been a revelation for me. Many, many "aha!" moments.

I'm working on seeking a diagnosis but right now am still writing up a list of my symptoms and examples and finding out more about my childhood. I've been seeing a psych for depression for awhile now and plan on bringing it up at my next visit. If anyone can give me advice on how to do this (what to say, etc.) it would be much appreciated!

Anyway, now for the fun stuff :-) I work as a graphic artist and spend most of my free time crafting--making jewlery, cross stitch, crochet, needle felt, etc. I also love the outdoors (camping, hiking, 4x4ing), photography, and art and design in general.

Looking forward to getting to know this community!

Welcome to AC! :)

I hope to move to the desert by 2019, when Arizona or California suburbs' house prices go up again.
