Good info on meltdowns

Very useful information, although most of it doesn't apply to me personally. During a meltdown I don't require stim toys or safety helmets or one of those keyboard things that you can communicate with. During meltdowns I just need social interaction; sympathy, comfort and reassurance. Even conversation helps to calm me down.

While having a meltdown is not attention-seeking behaviour, I do crave affectionate attention from others during a meltdown, like I need everyone to know how I'm feeling. But I don't do it for attention. When you're doing something for attention, you're acting more than what you're feeling. But with me, my actions match exactly how I'm feeling, if that makes sense. My meltdowns do look histrionic, like I'm just doing them deliberately to get attention, but it's not like that at all. That's one of the perks of having ADHD, because we tend to express our feelings more socially it can look like we're just being melodramatic for attention. But it ain't like that and I hate when people accuse me of attention-seeking when I'm clearly in distress and need moral support.
 
That is a very informative site...I was not aware of all of the signs of impending meltdown. Thanks for sharing that...maybe it will help some of us to avoid ending up in meltdown land quite as often. I will try doing some more calming things when I have warning signs to see if it helps
