Funny thing is I KNOW that I can swim, but I still lack the confidence to dive in, even with things I've done many times before. For instance, next week I am taking a trip by train that will involve a few stops and changes. Even though I have done it many times before, I am still absolutely terrified and will be writing a thoroughly detailed list of instructions.A true example of sink or swim.
Does anyone else get fearful of ordinary things/situations?
I have panic attacks even just going to the store for milk. I'll do it, but I have to psych myself into it and my heart is racing the entire time.
This captures much of my personal experience with fear in ordinary situations. At certain times in my life ordinary things spun way out of control in unpredictable ways.I don't fear ordinary situations, but fear that they can be non-ordinary ones, and it makes me nervous.
