Fear Inoculum - At long last...

Anyone else obsessing over Tool's new album?

Seriously, I've been looping it (and it's individual songs) for over a week now and I can't stop thinking about it or listening to it.

Complex and masterful. So good. Worth the wait.

Haha, I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't like it! Like I said elsewhere, it feels overworked and disconnected. The intricate layering of their older albums is somehow missing. Every band member seems to be fighting for their 'solo spotlight'. There is a sense of depth missing, the type that would have made you think. Tool have historically got me through so much and even as I grew older their songs took on a new meaning to mold and shift to help me through whatever else I was dealing with... But this album.. is just empty.

I'll give it a few more listens, but the filler tracks hurt my ears (Chocolate Chip Trip for example) and some longer-song ending sequences too - just noise that is painful to listen to.

I'm looking forward to the new Cult of Luna album though, they always have some interesting soundscapes :D
