thanks. also thinking about it i have realised that its not normal to be able not to visualise peopleMild face blindness or just really poor memory?
I'm a strongly visual learner and have always considered myself to remember names better than faces, which is half true, but it wasn't until I saw a post on tumblr the other that was like 'when you forget who some people look like when you haven't seen them for a while but remember every detail...www.autismforums.com
Coping with Face Blindness??
I was diagnosed AS when in was 15 and I'm now 27. I read a book I forgot the name of that is by an Aspie about his life growing up AS and its I think called "about aspergers by an aspie for aspies" or something like that. He explains face blindness and how we usually have it on different levels...www.autismforums.com
Questions about Prosopagnosia
I did a research that inability to recognize faces is a symptom of Prosopagnosia. But what about having an ability to recognize faces, but having hard time understanding the context of facial expressions? Is that milder from of Prosopagnosia? It's a symptom of Autism Spectrum Disorder and...www.autismforums.com
Face Blindness/Prosopagnosia
Does anyone have this issue like I do? It cause huge issues with me. I will see either my neighbor that lives next door in some strange place other than next door so I do not recognize them for about 30 seconds. I will see one of my daughter's teachers at a store. It will take me a while to know...www.autismforums.com
Prosopagnosia (failure to recognise faces)
This happens to me very often. I see someone who I believe is a familiar face and go over to start polite conversation. I am then met with a puzzled look in return and then I realise the person I am talking to isn't the person I assumed it was. In fact, it may be a complete stranger. I then have...www.autismforums.com
Can you visualise people easily?
Is it common for people with aspies to have difficulties visualising people? I would welcome comments and replies from everyone, but please only vote in the poll if you consider yourself an aspie. I assume that not being able to visualise people easily also causes recognition issues which would...www.autismforums.com
I readily recognize faces, IRL, if I keep seeing them on a regular basis, but I cannot visualize them. This is also true for my figure collection. I collect their heads so I can have physical references in my amateur drawing studio, Studio 126.thanks. also thinking about it i have realised that its not normal to be able not to visualise people
I usually explain that it's like colorblindness. Most people understand that at a basic level. I explain that colorblind people can see two colors next to each other and see they are different but they often can't pick out which is which. If they want more then I'll explain that, to me, faces are kind of like ornate vases, I can see all the independent features and if I'm looking at multiple I can say this one has sharper angles and that one more curves but if you show me a random vase and expect me to pick it out of a line up next week I'd be at a complete loss.lots of people i know dont know much about autism so it is often diffuclut to explain things. i need a way of saying"even though we have been freinds for years i might not be able to pick out you face in a crowd" without sounding like i dont care about them
I now tell anyone that seems significant that I can't recognize faces, when I meet them. Not random strangers but anyone I think I'll interact again. And then before I introduce myself I'll ask if we've met. Then if we did I do a half apology and remind them about my face issue. A lot of time I'll figure out who they are after they start talking to me and I'll let them know. Sometimes even if I don't remember them I'll pretend to (it seems to make them feel better) and then ask a trusted person who they are or who I know them.I no longer introduce myself to people because helf the time it turns out we've already met.
