extremally bad interview at a casino

so my rent is 310 and i only have 330 a week. so i needed a job that dont interrupt my uni schedule. i saw casino work at night so i applied. i went there. 12 people in the room, the interviewer start to discuss the role, i was panicking so i looked left and right, hands shaking and checked my phone twice.

when she handed out the forms she ignored me and when she handed out the chips used to be the part of interview she ignored me again. i went back asking why she ignored me and if what i did (checking my phone) was offensive to her i apologize and i explained that i have asd and adhd

she smiled, like i know what kind of simile it is. it is a power move, and she said not at all, she just forgot me. dont stress about it. when i left she shouted "byeeeeee [my name]" in front of everybody. also another interviwer asked my name in a condesending manner when i left.

i feel really sad right now. i dont know how to cope.

We have a few other Kiwis on the forums, maybe they can come up with some suitable suggestions for you.

Considering your autism it might not be the best sort of job for you anyway. Essentially it's a sales position, being smooth and confident in front of strangers and tricking them in to spending more money that they can afford.

But there could be other sorts of evening jobs that you could excel at. Afternoon shifts in factories, etc.

thx for the suggestion outdated. i think ur right, i might have dodged a bullet because im not fit for that role anyway(yesterday was my first time entering a casino and wow that place is very very very depressing).

Yes, i am just applying to everything i saw on indeed, seek, etc haha. Hopefully i can find somthing remote or work that dont interact with people.

I was lucky enough to have a remote internship for 6 weeks, and working @ ur own apartment is the best feeling ever haha.

Off topic, but there is a thread about Dragons and I think it would be interesting if you could describe the Chinese concept of a dragon. What they look like and what they mean in Chinese culture. It would be nice to hear about that from someone who is Chinese.

Hey there, and sorry that the visit to Sky City wasn't for you. Personal prejudice against all manner of gambling. Never been in one, never will. Even walking past the pokie machines when we were going up to Orbit last weekend made me feel physically ill.

Anyway, there is a massive labour shortage at the moment. So you should have loads of options. As you say, you want a role that is evening based, and whilst that does lead to some form of hospitality role, there's a lot more than Sky City. At one end then countdown have evening roles restacking shelves. Every store is hiring I think. Then in hospo don't knock a waiting job.

I learnt a lot about people interactions working as a waiter in a chain pizza restaurant as a school kid. Don't need to do much 'chat' carrying food out. Equally working in the kitchen, making pizza or cutting them. Need to be ordered, precise, accurate in replicating tasks. Got to the point where I was taking home more per week than the manager, despite only being on UKP2.80 an hour at the time, as I was doing so many double shifts as I was just so dependable and didn't goof off chatting, smoking, having tea breaks like most of the others.

I'm assuming you're Akl, but to be fair you could be elsewhere. For example in Bay of Plenty there are lots of packhouse jobs, including nights/evenings.

And then there is Akl Airport. They were recruiting 3000 people last July. No way did they all get filled and no way do they not need more. Lots of basic retail roles, it's a 24 city there, so sure there's lots of options there too, and bonus of 24 hour public transport back to teh CBD if your shift finishes at an odd time and you haven't a car.

Just some suggestions.

dragon symbolizes harmony and power. dragon in Chinese history is a creature that's the king of the animals. Some what similar to god in western culture. It has tight links to imperialism during monarchy period. As the king associates himself with the dragon - that his decision is for the people and he will guide the people.

In modern Chinese history, dragons normally appear when ones trying to identify themselves as the 'offspring of the dragon' as by history - Chinese people are created by the dragon.

Dragon symbolizes power and wealth. And the fact that it is the dragon who created China, who is controlling China(the king), it implies China is the center of the world, the best country in the world. In fact the Chinese name for China is 'Zhong guo' which directly translates to 'a country in the centre of the earth'.

The dragon culture and mindset does have significant impact on Chinese history. When China was prosperous during the Tang dynasty the king decided to connect with nearby countries and improve their lives as well (i.e Japanese culture is heavily influenced by China during that period).

So in contrast to the Portuguese who invaded the U.S during their peak, and welp British conquer the whole world. Due to the influence of the dragon the Chinese never invaded any country during any dynasty that is controlled by Han Chinese(the type of Chinese who believe in the dragon, Genghis Khan period is a whole different story).

Don't forget there are a lot of different emplyers out there. The Airport themselves, but then hundreds (literally) of other employers: All the retailers, the companies with the contracts to clean, to maintain, to restock, the baggage handling, etc etc.

Sorry that was your experience. Some people are just notoriously prejudiced and it’s probably better for you that you weren’t even part of the process. She’d have made your life hell. I get that you’re upset, I’d be too.

The more l did interviews, the better l became at this. But we all have off days, and can screw up a simple interview. It sounds like the person was condescending towards you. Maybe they felt you were too young or being on your phone was a pet peeve of that person. I never do interviews with my phone out. Some places are super strict, others don't care if you do it on your time off. But next interview, keep your phone in your pocket. Good luck on your next interview.

I feel that the interviewer was wrong to ignore you in this way, regardless of you checking your phone or how they may have felt about you. That’s unprofessional and that’s their mistake, not yours. Finding something that is a good fit is challenging but your talents will likely become obvious in time.
