easily addicted to certain foods

Does anyone have foods that they are ok to not eat but if they do start eating them, they almost can't stop?

I can take spoonfuls of peanut butter, especially if it is mixed with honey and have to force myself to not eat as much as I want. I could easily eat more than half a cup and not spread it on anything.

Another thing is yogurt, yogurt with trail mix or some cereals. Not all yogurts but some brands and flavors I could just eat tons of.

Different than addiction I guess since it isn't as much craving them (happens too though) as not being able to stop those specific foods when I start eating them.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Yes yes and yes for sure. I absolutely can't have a bag of chips in my room and not finish it off within a few days of getting it. Even if i bought it intending it to last all week. It just doesn't happen. Same with soda, i'm trying to work on that one cause its gotten to the point my stomach doesn't seem to agree with drinking a third of a pack of soda a day anymore.

But I think i've found the ticket to kicking the soda habit...i discovered some premade individually portioned smoothies at the store that look delicious. Unfortunately they're loads more expensive than soda but they're healthier, i checked the labels online. Can't wait to buy some tomorrow to try them. I LOVE smoothies, more than i do soda i just never have time to make them.

If I open a chocolate bar, I have to finish it almost instantly. I don't buy chocolate that often nowadays.

Mine's a weird one: Chai milk. I used to go to Starbucks and get iced chai lattes, then realized I could just buy the syrup and put it in milk, like making chocolate milk. I'm truly addicted. I'm moving from the U.S. to England this year, and I'm in a panic because I doubt I'll be able to find my chai syrup there. Looks like Amazon will be doing a lot of shipping to the West Midlands in the near future!

I read that we have more serotonin receptors in our gut than we do anywhere else in the body. That explains why we crave feel-good foods. It makes our brains happy. Great. Can I get those receptors relocated somewhere that won't make me into Jabba the Hutt?

Potato chips/crisps. There is something about them that is so satiating; It must be the oil, salt and texture.

LMAO I have trouble with mustard, nutritional yeast, peanut butter, hummus, and dates. I like putting peanut butter or hummus on lettuce/cabbage/onions etc. >.> It's not really a bad thing if it's your worst offense just avoid the stuff with palm oil and sugar dear!

Berianireth,
That' s the problem. The ones I am addicted to and have problems with are sugar. The peanut butter has a lot of fat and even if I buy the unsweetened one, the addiction to peanut butter and honey is causing problems.

And the bread and cream cheese will cause problems in the long run, just different ones.

Get the individual packets and try a sugar elimination diet for a few weeks with the intention of adding back more natural alternatives eventually. You can probably adjust your taste. I don't take Dr. Oz too seriously but his low carb paleo advice might help...no sugar/wheat/peanuts/oats/or high glycemic fruits and veggies. Just low gi veggies and one or two servings of a protein which can include other nuts! It's supposed to be a metab booster but it actually makes me less addictive.

Yes, I several foods like that, and I don't buy them because I know what's going to happen as soon as I start eating. Mine are:
Peanut butter (the crunchy kind)
Cashews
Yogurt with crunchy muesli. I used to be able to get a certain make of muesli, and much to my chagrin I can no longer find it anywhere, beyond importing it from Germany. Both the yogurt and the muesli have to be just right.
Chocolate
Quark (no idea why)
