Does the Fairy type in Pokemon promote stereotypes?

I was wondering, does anyone think that the Fairy type in Pokémon promote stereotypes? They have to make most Fairy-type Pokémon feminine and all Fairy-type specialists female. I would like to see a male Fairy-type trainer who is a handsome preppy guy that wears a light pink interlock polo shirt, and more masculine Fairy-type Pokémon (even if they are still pink).

It's Pokemon... they always stick to themes. It makes them all much easier to identify at a glance. As for the human characters, it's something of an anime trope, not just in this series. Like how fire-users will often have red spiky hair and a tendency to get enraged all the time.

That's modern anime for you. Subtlety doesnt sell DVDs.

I haven't seen the anime but for the actual game, the fairy types can be male or female. Plus I feel like I've seen a good handful of androgynous characters in the game. Japan doesn't seem to find that kind of thing taboo, (seems like they have appreciation for it), but the united states sure does. So often times sexuality and gender stuff that is outside the norm, is censored here. I wonder if they are trying to cater to the western audience these days by staying "safe" and not adding stuff like that anymore.
But from looking on the pokedex, there's a good balance of fairy pokemon I think. Mr Mime is, well, a mister. And a few others that aren't especially feminine.

When trying to see your point, I can't get past the fact that fairies aren't real. My brain is blocking me. Ow.

Heck yeah man I'd love to see preppy pink polo fairy trainer that'd be awesome. You definitely have a point, I think. Always good to notice gender stereotypes when you see them!
