Does Anyone Else Cause Other People to Stop Talking?

I had to pick up someone to help me do a job today. We rode together about a half hour each way to and from the job. My wife asked me what we talked about. I said "not much, I have that effect on people". After some minor conversation we just sat in silence for the duration of the ride.
That's pretty typical for me. For example, if NT's are having a conversation nearby me and one leaves, the other will probably shut up and there will be awkward silence. Seems like it's always been that way.
 
Suppose you could talk if you wanted to, if there was something to be said. But a lot of men don't talk very much, including my spouse. We can drive for hours and not say a word. It's not a problem for me, think women sometimes like to talk more. Find people talk less in rural areas, don't mind that. They seem more chatty in the cities:rolleyes:
 
Yes, this happens around me as well. Sometimes it makes me uncomfortable or a bit paranoid.

Then there are the times when I have struggled mightily to maintain a conversation with people I am not familiar or comfortable with. Those have been instructive to me, because I understand that I am not alone in this feeling.
 
I run out of things to say about 15 minutes into any conversation, what follows is a lot of awkward silence. Awkward for the other person any way it is not abnormal for me to go days with out saying anything. On occasion we might hit on a topic relating to one of my interests, in that case I have an unfortunate tendency to dominate the conversation in my excitement. It has the same result, the listener gets bored and I sit droning on like an idiot. I hate being a pest so I often will avoid conversations on topics that interest me, because I cannot control my self.

people on the spectrum have awkward social communication and body language so its not surprising that we give off signs to NTs that we have a different way of communicating.

i dont chat to people unless they chat to me,but theres one support staff i really get on with who is OCD and undiagnosed autistic,both of us will sit in silence in the car no matter how long the journey as we get lost in our own minds and we dont find it uncomfortable or rude like NTs would.
 
I get tired of people thinking I am being rude because I do not spend hours talking about the weather or some equally pointless topic. My Father in law really gets angry with me because I will sit for hours with out talking, or answer his questions in mono syllables.
 
Yeah, Im pretty much a mobile "record scratch". But over the years of being bullied, ostracised, messed with and mocked, I have grown teeth. I have learned how to mess with people's heads. To take their assumptions about me, and their social momentum and use them against them. Or sometimes I just do subtle, random very ambiguous things to f*ck with them, and for my own amusement.
 
I too enjoy messing with their heads. Sometimes when they talk to me I stare at their forehead and blink. It dose not take long before they lose their train of thought. That is always good for a laugh.
 
I actually enjoy, I mean really enjoy sometimes being brutally honest. In the middle of a conversation I might analyze something and answer it and then completely change the subject to a discussion on the reason why the person feels so angry, upset or annoyed. It's not a good way to 'Win friends and influence people.' Probably why my siblings find me annoying.
 
Yeah, this happens to me but only with NT's I don't know very well. My husband (also on the spectrum) and I can go for a while not talking when we're both sat in the house, but it's not uncomfortable. Same with my best friend (also on the spectrum). Anyone else, the silence can be deafening, and I'm desperately running through what I could possibly say and how they must think it's really weird that I'm not saying anything. This usually ends with me saying something stupid.
