... sort of like being high?
If you ask me, autism is the equivalent of being high on a drug. The lower functioning you are, the more "drugged up" you are. There are drugs out there like cocaine/crack which, in high enough doses, make people act autistic-like. Some people who take high enough doses of cocaine actually display stim-like movements.
I sometimes doubt that people with "classic" autism are even retarded in the literal sense; I honestly think they're just too "high" on themselves. They're able to achieve great feats while "high", just like a musician can write brilliant songs while literally high on drugs, but can't function well at most other tasks due to being high.
I've done certain drugs where my Asperger's symptoms were magnified which made me think "Holy **** - being high on this drug is just like having a "dose" of Asperger's.".
Anyone else feel the way I do? I'm sure some people won't like me comparing autism to drug-induced effects, but I honestly believe that whatever causes autism affects the same part(s) of the brain as some of the more popular narcotics.
