And what do you think I'm saying of these people who say I'm going to go on camera and do whatever the director says...

If that happened to you, I would question why you did something so harmful to yourself (clearly such behavior would indicate mental illness or instability of some kind), and I would absolutely blame the lender for taking advantage of you even though he knew you would be harmed by his predatory actions.

Just to clarify, are you suggesting that anyone that works in the porn industry has a mental illness or instability of some kind?

Not everyone, no, of course not. I’m saying that many, many women regret doing porn, feel deep violation and shame later, have suffered abuse in their lives which led them to porn, and very often suffer from mental illness and depression.

I'm saying they where given a contract and a chance to ask questions.
Multiple times.
And they still did it.
And not just once or twice.
Again and Again.
There is a point when Personal responsibility overcomes Societal obligation.
You are responsible for your bad decisions, the first time, the last time, EVERYTIME.
Play stupid games, get stupid prizes.

Ok, fair enough. A few follow up questions then.

How is the consumer of porn supposed to know which women may/may not regret what they did at some time in the future, or which women took said contracts due to past abuse/mental illness/depression?

Also, how is contract law supposed to work to support said women who change their mind about contracts they signed many years in the future? Should said porn be unpublished at that point? If so, should the women also be required to repay the publisher whatever they earned doing said work? Or be made to pay damages to the publisher for loss of revenue?

---

As for people using drug addiction to control women and/or sex trafficking. Those are both criminal enterprises which absolutely should be stopped, of course. They are illegal, and I don't think anyone is suggesting they should be made legal, ever. If you're just suggesting any such pornographic material be legislated to be removed from the internet, I agree with that. We definitely should stop the proliferation of such materials. I would presume that would be a job for law enforcement agencies though, and hopefully they are doing so..?

People choose to do things that harm themselves, yes. My point here is that women end up regretting it. Many of them have been through trauma. Many of them are drug addicts. Many of them are lost girls dealing with childhood abuse or neglect. So it’s much more complicated than you’re suggesting. And my overall point is that people who watch porn are taking advantage of women who make decisions that they later regret very much and that end up causing them further psychological damage. Do you think you’re morally off the hook because a woman signed papers allowing herself to do something that will cause her pain and regret?

There’s no way you can know that. So, ethically speaking, you shouldn’t watch it at all. I’d say that the majority of women in porn later regret it and/or are suffering from a mental illness and/or drug addiction, though, so for all intents and purposes, every video is unethical.

No idea. I wasn’t thinking in a legal sense, just in an ethical sense. I’m talking about individual responsibility.

They try their best, I’m sure. They have limited resources, and the demand is immense. They’ll never be able to stop most of it.

So some women end up regretting it. so what.
I've known soldiers regret joining the military.
I've known cops that regretted joining the police.
I've known people that regret going to college.
I've made my own mistakes.

"OH I REGRET WHAT I DID PLEASE FORGET ABOUT IT"
Yeah that's not going to happen.

Deal with it.
That's the only realistic thing you can do.

Another Question would you even care if it was a guy complaining?
REALLY Think about that.
slot your loved ones into the different roles then a stranger.

Then ask yourself what they would want you to do before they did it and after.

Do you think you know better how they should live their lives than them?

Many women regret it. Not “some.” Soldiers, cops, and college grads: not good comparisons. Sex is a deeply intimate act with tremendous amounts of shame and guilt attached to them, especially for women. But we’re talking about two different things here. I’m talking about individual ethical responsibility, whereas you’re insisting that a woman signing a contract and consenting to doing porn relieves you, the viewer, of any and all ethical responsibility. If you knowingly participate in something that is doing damage or potential damage to another person, whether or not they consented, there is a breach of ethics.

Actually the soldier comparison isn’t that far off. I think men are definitely taken advantage of, and when they realize it, I’m sure the sense of betrayal and sadness is palpable.

Yes, I would care if it was a guy complaining. I think I put that in my original post, didn’t I? No doubt many men regret it as well.

Wow did you miss the target there.

No I'm saying they're ALL equally responsible for their actions.
By your statement you should feel guilty every time you eat a banana.
Look up "The Banana Republic Wars"

You’re talking about accountability for one’s actions. I’m talking about ethical responsibility. We all make bad choices. But when you know that someone is making a choice that’s harmful or potentially harmful to them and you take advantage of it anyway because you get something out of it, that’s unethical.

If you can watch porn without wondering who the girls in the videos are, what they feel, what they’ve been through, if they’re addicts, etc.,…well, no one’s going to stop you.

And what's the difference?
Am I to go through life questioning at every step did someone involved in the production of this make a stupid decision?
If so you shouldn't be on the internet at all.
After all most rare earths are mined in 3rd world countries in slave labor conditions.
That rules out your computer, smartphone, car, the closest fast transit train, etc.

Oh, and yes I’m very careful about what I eat and what I buy. It’s impossible to be perfect, but I do the best I can. I’ve been vegan for eleven years. I buy local. I purchase chocolate, coffee, and tea from companies like Equal Exchange. I volunteer and donate to charities. Etc. I want to live in a better world.

Of course not. But when you know that there’s a very good chance that something you’re doing is hurting or will hurt someone, such as pornography, I think you should take a step back and reconsider.

That’s true about minerals and slave labor. Makes me sick. This is why we speak up and demand change. Many people are.

And all that Speaking up and demanding change does NOTHING.
Because they still buy the companies products.
It's like saying don't eat that bug to a kid while handing them the bug.
You want to be a light on the hill, stop handing them the bug.

Me I'm Villain.
I know I'm bad and I'm going to continue being bad as long as it benefits me.

But by all means continue in your "half hearted goodness"
"It's all good so long as I don't see it." as most fail to say

Want to change my actions don't try to tug my heartstrings.
Change the cost benefit analysis.

Play stupid games get stupid prizes.

No offense, You are half-right women like Bree Olson has told women don't go in the porn industry. But I can't see the likes of Angela White, Athena Faris, Elsa Jean, and Joanna Angel telling ladies don't go in in adult films or regretting their choices. I don't see it as taking advantage of women. Alektra Blue won't have sex with everyone gals are watching porn too. They direct porn. Own their sites go to the Cons. Sign our stuff, thank us, and encourage us to continue watching. I respect all women. I don't degrade them. Who am I to tell a grown woman, a legal adult, not to go into that? If you don't like it, porn avoids it, but the women in that industry feel comfortable in their skin. Would you call PETA and Vanity fair? And GQ taking advantage of women for exposed pictures? I'm grown-up porn, exists for adults, so are the strip clubs. So do you see yourself saying Demi Lovato, who is a feminist, is degrading to women? By going to strip clubs giving a female stripper money? I don't. Do you think women who lost their jobs last year in the shutdown didn't run to go to join porn after the sky fell on them financially? I Do.

Honestly if that's what they want to do, that's what they want to do.
I'm not going to tell them no.
Wont work anyway.
I can say "that's a SUPER BAD IDEA" doesn't matter if they don't respect my opinion.
Same for you.
Unless your one of those murderous Authoritarian types.
I have a different procedure for those types.
