Whenever I see someone I think that they're left hand is their right and vice versa. I think it's because that's how they'd be in a mirror.

Also, I have a hard time remembering east vs west.
 
I did have this problem actually but I think of it now in terms on my hands, the right is the hand I use to write with and to imagine someone else then I would have to turn myself around, hope that makes sense.

I also have problems with thing of that nature too, when someone says left or right i find difficult to figure it out which is what. About the east and west, well i get lost! :D
 
I have a friend who has that challenge...we worked out a system in a car to use my way or your way so she can understand directions for making a turn :p
 
I used to have that problem. I didn't really understand the concept of left vs. right until I was eight since it all depends on perspective. I'm okay now. Have you tried labelling your hands "left" and "right" for about a week and looking in the mirror? It seemed to work for me. : ) I'm sure you can get it straightened out with a bit of time.
 
Well, it slows me down maybe a second or so...in thinking out what someone elses "left or right" actually is relative to my own. But in terms of basic navigation, no I never had such problems, whether I minored in geography or not.

On somewhat of a tangent, this sort of thing makes me wonder if it applies visually as well to things like the direction of gears. That if you're shown a pair of gears, and it's shown which direction one of the gears goes, whether or not you can determine which direction the other gear goes. Something that wasn't usually a problem for me as well.

I know these are the sort of thing the military scrutinizes in aptitude testing...
 
I used to have issues with left to right, but now when someone says them I just have to look at my left or right hand and I get it. Doesn't slow me down at all.
 
I've always had trouble with it. Sometimes I can use my hands to figure it out, and sometimes it just comes to me right off, but it's never really gone away.
