Buying hearing aids for APD

“I have trouble hearing sometimes.”
They already know that, yeah. But does it make any sense that headphones help hearing loss? I have never encountered this idea before and every time I tried to wear my earbuds seeing friends, they kept on misinterpreting it despite explanations. Especially because they also liked to wear headphones, but for very different purposes, to isolate themselves and play music. To not hear. I really don't want to argue and have to fight over everyone thinking I don't want to be bothered.

I understand. It’s irritating to always have to explain something and try to get people to understand.

I use white noise with headphones that let sound pass through to help me focus on what others are saying in environments with distracting noises. It’s difficult and tiresome to explain that I am wearing headphones to better engage in the conversation.

It’s not fun, but it’s worth the benefits of processing conversations better. In your situation, my hope is that therapeutic headphone use will continue to become more and more common and others will just accept it. Maybe you will just have to be someone to pave the way.

Ohhh, you too?

So there are at least two of us, it feels less alone

How do I explain it to the students? *shrug*
Don't explain it to students.

Never make excuses for yourself, especially if you're supposed to be in control of a class. I think you know that already. If you carry on as if nothing's out of the ordinary it's highly likely the students won't say a word about it.

If one specifically asks about it you can say you have hearing issues but don't offer that up front, wait to see which ones ask.

I'm happy. It's such a large step overcoming my issues: feeling exhausted, lack of social interactions. It's so amazing and easy to have a conversation. I don't go mute as much if I don't have to think so much what someone has said. Tbh I also felt like making eye contact.

Therefore it also has given me more confidence that I understand myself and my problems and know what I feel. There is so much snake oil selling of CBT and other behavioural therapies that it feels overwhelming. And it's just... wrong in its logic. And so aggressive. Making organic issues into a question of "attitude" and trying hard enough. It's toxic.
