Balance

Of the physical sort. I've been losing it more often lately. I'm actually tracking a few negative trends with my me and this is one of them. Probably no AS connection so I'm looking to rule that out. I'd (maybe) see a doc but no health insurance so blah. Anyway, it is like my inner ear shuts off for about half a second occasionally and I stumble. Anyone else here ever?

Been a tough week man. =o( Hope y'all are having a better one.

I'm not a doctor, but as well as obviously allowing you to hear, your ears are key to balance and balance can therefore be adversely effected if something goes wrong. Do you sometimes hear buzzing or ringing sounds too as this is known as tinnitus and I've read about how some people with tinnitus also experience similar to yourself where their ear seems to "shut off" for a very short time. If you search google for "it's like my ear shuts off" the first result is from a Tinnitus Support Message Board named "Tapatalk" that may interest you.

If I'm not stumbling over something, or dropping something (repeatedly) I tend to start fearing something is wrong... Look up the word Clumsy and my name should there as the definition...

If this is a new thing for you, not part of your regular life... Maybe its Vertigo. Thats sort of common, but also has other things usually (like dizziness or room spinning type sensation).

I have some really nasty seasonal allergies, and this time of year is kind of hard on me. This also seems to affect me in how clumsy I am. Not sure... but I bet you get it all sorted out soon.

I wish you a better week next week... Not that I'm a genie or anything but it never hurts to plan for the best. : )

I get vertigo and have tinnitus.
Doctors don't know what to do, but, they have told me stress can make it worse.
I thought that anyway. The tinnitus gets worse when I'm out with people all around and too much noise.
The vertigo hits more often if there is stress day after day for an ongoing period of time. It is less frequent if I can just be me and not feel rushed having to meet appointments every day.

That shut off sound in the ears, I was told, is the eustacian tube that runs from the inner ear down to the backside of the tonsil area. It can tighten up or close up temporarily. This is what happens when you land in a plane or go down a hill too fast in the car.
When it is just for a second like that, it is some type of constriction probably from a nerve ending like a twitch in the eyelid can happen.

I have tinnitus. I would say I rarely get 'ear shut off' unless I have a cold, bunged up with hay fever or an infection.

But I don't need any of that to loose coordination and be a clumsy oaf.

I personally would track it for a bit to see if it gets better, worse, or stays the same. If it gets worse, then I would see an audiologist first, but the fact that you lose your balance is more troubling. If that gets worse, then definitely see a Dr

If there were an AS connection, it would be chronic rather than come on suddenly, so if you have not experienced this before, I doubt it has anything to do with AS. It could be an infection, in which case it will get better in a few days. If you have a fever, that could bring on trouble with balance. If the balance issue gets worse, it might be more serious so you should get it checked out.

Thanks everyone. Always clumsy and accident prone here too. I’ve had the ear whine for a few years now but it dropped off some when I finally got my BP down. Maybe some damage was done by that. Now it’s kinda like eye floaties in that it bothers me only when I notice it. But now it’s more like my balance falls asleep for a moment. Guessing that if it happens when I’m on the stairs then no more messages from the screen name that sounds more like a money shot rally than was intended.

SO done laying down for this crap. I didn’t make it this far by being a p-word like this. Preparing to pursue a solution and with intention.

Aspies can be clumsy. I personally have vertigo as a medication side effect.

Can you say a little more about your vertigo?

When I have vertigo, it is horrid.
There are 2 styles:
Keep my eyes open and stare at nothing/into space
Keep my eyes shut

The kind where I get to keep my eyes shut is *easier.*

I have done well this year.
I haven't had to crawl on the floor.
I haven't puked.

I have to wear more clothing than what I see other people wearing, but
it is preferable to horrid vertigo.

For me I just feel like I'm going to fall over and sometimes I walk funny.

That is very different from my experience with vertigo.

When I say the "closed eyes" version is *easier*
I mean that I have to stay in bed for 6 or 8
hours and not move.

When I need to go to the bathroom,
I crawl on the floor to get there, and
hang on to the bath tub while I use the toilet.
Then I crawl back to the bed.
