Two Fairfax County Public Schools workers are accused of assaulting an 11-year-old autistic boy on a school bus in two incidents just days apart, according to a Fairfax County police statement.

Bus driver James Duffy III, 62, of Lorton, is on administrative leave while in the process of being terminated, police officials said. Edmund Bailey, 35, also of Lorton, has resigned his position as an aide. Both men were charged with one count of assault and battery.

The first incident was reportedly on Oct. 11 and the second was two days later. A staff member witnessed the second assault and intervened, according to police.

A supervisor was notified and reviewed surveillance footage from the bus that allegedly showed the incidents.

Police ask that anyone who has witnessed this kind of behavior call 911 immediately. If you suspect someone is the victim of a crime, contact Crime Solvers by calling 1-866-411-TIPS, or by visiting fairfaxcrimesolvers.org.
