Ive been looking for an Aperger's group in my area. Not really a support group, more like a group of high-functioning aspies where we can just chill and talk. I havent had any luck :| I dont think Iv ever met another officially diagnosed aspie. Ever! It sucks haha Does anybody know how I can possibly find one?

Been considering maybe starting one up too. Very informal, just meeting some aspies and we can BS and have a few brews at my apartment. I have no idea how I could go about doing that either.

Any help is greatly appreciated! :D

I've had this thought a lot, and always wanted to go to one, or at least meet more people in real life (been sort of considering it again lately). The other thing I'd be a bit hesitant about was not going to something that just felt like a formal group therapy, I'd also rather just hang out and have a sort of mini-party casual thing.

It's too bad that so many people in the forums live so far apart (or don't travel as much), otherwise I'd think that'd be perfect.

why don't you organize one?

I dont know how to begin doing that. Mostly I dont know how to contact people on the spectrum around the Nebraska area. And my biggest concern is if I do itd most likely be on the internet and Im not very happy about saying, "Hey, do you strangers want to come hang out at my apartment?" haha I think itd sound creepy. Im just clueless about starting up a group but I think itd be worth it if I figured it out.

There's a few things you can do:
- contact your local Easter Seals organization, ask if there're any support groups/ groups for people with Asperger's in the area, maybe they have some suggestions:
Easter Seals Nebraska : Contact Us
- post a message on Grasp facebook page, ask if there's a group in the area or some folks with Asperger's from the area, things like that
GRASP - Non-Profit Organization - New York, NY | Facebook
- there's a website called meetup.com, maybe you can find a group there or create one, even though if you want to create one it's not going to be free (not sure how much it cost though)
- tweet about it

You can just say something like..."people with Asperger's looking for a support group" or "people with Asperger's looking for a meet-up" that sounds pretty neutral... plus you can always hang out in a coffee shop or something :)

those are just a few ideas that crossed my mind :) the thing is, if you'll get really into it (looking for a group or trying to create one) you'll just need to start with one option, then somebody mentions something or you see something and more ideas with come.

plus, if you do find some Aspergians in your area, you can always direct them here so you can talk 1st, figure out who they are and then hang out. You would get to know them without making it too personal, because you're just inviting them to an Asperger's forum, no obligations.

Thatd be the Plan A scenario :) we could all meet up, get drunk, and watch That 70's Show haha
