Any adults here in the UK been through the assessment process?
I am a 51 yr old high functioning autistic married female in a full time job, and have only recently decided to get an 'official' diagnosis. After voicing my 'concerns' my gp has referred me to the 'autism network' for an assessment. This was nearly 3 weeks ago, and he told me to wait at least a month before calling him back to hurry them along. My question is this: what are they actually likely to do at this assessment? Will they just ask questions? Or are they likely to get me to do things such as retell stories or interpret non verybal communication? Do you think it will just be the one appointment?
When my eldest son was diagnosed at the age of 11 he already was under a paed for developmental delay and when we said we though he was on the autistic spectrum she agreed just like that. No assessment or anything.
I am hoping it will be as quick with me - an hours discussion with me and my husband and a diagnosis. I suspect I may be wrong though.
