I had an interview at 10 a.m. today at a plant nursery company. I think the interview went well overall, but I don't have a driver's license. They asked if I could get one and we had a discussion about why I probably can't. I didn't get the job, but I think they liked the fact that I had experience working in inclement weather and doing things like mending fences. When they sent me the email that I had not been selected, they told me that they wanted me to put in for other positions at their company. The current opening was for a landscape role and driving would have been necessary. I think I stand a pretty good chance if one of those other roles come open.

Since then, I have been offered an interview at a grocery store. It has been set for Saturday.

Still some hope in this equation. That's a big deal for them to mention there were other jobs available. A good sign that your interview went well, but that the driver's license and perhaps car were necessary for that one job.

Yet you may have dodged a real bullet with that initial job. In the event you might have been expected to use your personal auto for business purposes, I personally think it's a precarious thing to accept, depending on what your auto insurer's underwriting policies may be over a personally insured vehicle used for business purposes. Then again operating one of their insured vehicles would be fine, assuming your motor vehicle record is clean as a licensed driver.

In essence, having to use your own vehicle in your job, even if you are compensated for fuel and possibly automotive wear and tear works against most employees.

And in the event you cannot obtain a license, it may be best to inquire if possible about the job before applying, and whether or not driving on the job is required in whole or in part. Which of course would be a "deal-breaker" for you and them under such circumstances.
