A Spring Equinox Poem

foliodoe

I'm living my whole life at once.
Beholder's eye be damned,
I know it when I see it.
Ignorance's bliss is set free
By truth and truth alone.

Beauty bobs and lists where moonlight lives on Earth.
How long since I've seen the Sun?
A question answered by equinox
And evidenced by shadow.

Magic lives in knotty branches
Snapped beneath my bootheel.
Sunlight carves an angle
In the tardy snowfall.

Joy can pull the Moon,
But I am solar powered.
Etch the lovers' rune
Where it can reach the coward.

For hermits pave in tedium
Roads with patient tar.
Beneath the tree I buried mice and wept.
One last hug across her trunk
Before I brought my tears
Into the kitchen with me;
The mighty hounds of consequence
Were steaming in their cages.

The Fool is flying down the serpent's back.
His crown is dignified and small.
Birds are singing in their bushes
Where his joy is hidden.
Grief is what he owes,
When light is not forbidden.

Courage is a water screw
In sunken derivation,
Where cottonmouth can sink into
Its deepest contemplation.

Can you make the sagebrush
Safe again to burn?
Would you, petty Devil,
Give the screw a turn?
