  • I love my neighbors' dogs (seriously they came up to me for some belly rubs), but I wish they would stay out of the trash.

So your neighbors are trashy bitches.
I generally have no problem with deer, but moose freaks me out.

    They are HUGE!

We have herds of giant elk. Never mess with an elk - neither you nor your car will survive.

But I love moose tracks. At least the ice cream.

Imagine the amount of damage hitting a deer does to the average car. Now imagine the size of a moose and hitting it with a car.
People think I'm weird for thinking owls are cute (they beat koalas in my book).

Owls are cool, Koalas are noisy smelly disease ridden pests that we have to regularly cull to prevent them from destroying their own habitats. People from around Sydney think they're an endangered species, but that's because Sydney is so polluted that native animals can't survive.

I once had the rare opportunity to watch a barn owl attack a nest of pigeons on the roof just above my apartment unit's living room window. Quickly reminding me that the owl is a bird of prey. Anything but "cute".

Why do Peruvian owls always appear in pairs? They’re Inca hoots.
Fun fact: Not all owls are nocturnal. Some are awake during the day.
Ever take one of those animal personality quizzes? Mine's an owl. Pretty fitting.

I wonder if it took into account that individuals within a species can have very different personalities. For instance, different cats I've met have been drastically different.🤔

    I'm generally a turtle.
I wonder if dogs can see in the dark like cats.

Nocturnal guardians. Your dog is ready to rip into any predator if it gets near. I love dogs in the night. Coyotes, wolves. I was good friends with a dingo. We had a half coyote pup for a minute, until he woke up one morning wild and went up to the mountain to join his father. A couple years ago, my daughter and I took a walk behind a coyote pup and his dam a few times on their nightly circuit.

We had a neighbor a few miles up the road. He had a pet dingo. The dingo didn't like a lot of people, but he'd let me come up to him and sit with him and give him scritches :)
I'm so sensitive to criticism. Maybe that's why I like animals.

Animals are so very not judgy.

My dogs and cats are completely unconcerned by even my weirdest stuff. They only care that I'm nice to them, and that I feed them. I find that very refreshing.

Here's some French tourists meeting a Frillneck Lizard for the first time. They're harmless.

Me too. I am very gentle and shy. I try to always be nice to everyone. I can't handle it when people are not gentle with me. It shocks and confuses me in the moment, and then makes me cry when I am alone. Animals, however, can be very gentle, and loyal and friendly once they trust you. I really like animals a lot.
I was helping my mate look for her cat, and I found him napping with the neighbor's dog. Plus, wombats are much bigger than I thought.

Wombats are incredibly cute when they're little. This bloke is a licensed wildlife carer:

    Are wombats mean or mellow?

They are gentle but they're also known to have very short tempers. They're rodents so if one bites you it's going to be nasty, but at least we don't have all the nasty diseases here that the rest of the world does.
Komodo dragons are scary. It's haunting to see them hunt down their prey as it bleeds out.

We have some big lizards here but nothing the size of those things. Our goannas get to about 2.5 metres long and hunt prey up to the size of a house cat.

They are living theropod dinosaurs and resemble ones that preyed on our pre-human ancestors.

The only known fatality from a cassowary is an idiot in Florida that illegally owned one. He used to go in to it's enclosure with a shield and make it attack him to show off to tourists and he got exactly what he deserved.
The blue ring octopus is a pretty terrifying creature despite being so small.

Odd fact, they don't "inject" venom. After they bite something they dribble and that saliva is venomous, in an underwater situation they will have moved away from you before they start drooling and you're quite safe. Pick them up out of the water because they're pretty and hold them in your hand for a nice photo and there's nowhere else for that drool to go but in the bite. Yes, they're deadly.
