    Yes! It looks like my internet service is back to normal.

    I suspect that the problem is related to smoke from the Canadian wildfires. I know that there have been air quality alerts in Detroit, and both the sun and moon have been bright red due to particulate matter (smoke) in the air.

    Internet was real wonky for the last few days.

    I could access most sites, but some, like this one, wouldn't load.

    We had monster rainstorms last night, though, so maybe things will work now.

    The Service Berry trees are in full bloom. They produce mass quantities of small white flowers that smell vaguely like vanilla, but actually smell unlike anything else (some people don't like the smell, though).

    They produce edible berries, although I've never met anybody who managed to harvest them before the birds get them.

    The trees grow wild here, and are EVERYWHERE. They can be smelt a hundred yards away.

    Temps dropped from near 80 to upper 60s. Now I can go out and drag logs around again with oozing from my pores.

    Last week, I planted a couple of foxglove plants along the forest trail.

    Something has dug them up twice. I have replanted them twice.

    I have no idea which critter is doing this, but I hope they aren't eating any. Foxglove is very poisonous.

    Well, I used organic fertilizer when I planted them. That stuff is mostly bone meal, blood meal, ground chicken feathers and fish heads.

    I'm betting it was one of the smallish scavengers - raccoon, opossum - that imagined something tasty buried under the plant :) .

    Cold, wet, rain here. Perfect weather for this time of year, but I'm rearranging my garden and it's not ready to harness the weather, and it's too wet to work on it.

    I'd get wet socks. I hate wet socks.

    Perfect excuse to watch bad horror movies indoors.

    I wish I had some hot chocolate.

    My hurdy gurdy kit came. It's pretty cool.

    The wood parts are laser cut, and the unique bits are 3D printed.

    Unfortunately, this will have sit on the shelf until the spring garden rush is over.

    Yeah - and expensive. Unfortunately, even those that cost around $1000 are generally junk.

    This kit is designed by a fellow named Jaap, in the Netherlands. Gurdy World recommends it as the ONLY inexpensive (about $400, as a kit) gurdy worth buying.

    He makes a few kits each week, puts them up for sale on Sunday night, and they sell out by Tuesday.

    I'm starting to learn Molly Malone on the harp. I think there's some kind of law or custom that all lever harpers MUST play Molly Malone.

    In other news, the hair for my tagelharpa came today. There is something inherently weird about opening a box and finding a literal ponytail inside.

    I got the color called "sorrel" because that's what my hair was before it went white.

    Yeah, I was remembering a bit more of it. Not a huge amount more, just "she wheels her wheel barrow, through the streets broad and narrow." Then I remembered the general theme was that she dies and her ghost still roams through the streets if I remember singing "cockles and mussels alive alive-o". It must be 36 years since I last heard it.

    4 paw paw trees in the ground. We are a bit north for them, but I thought I'd try exploiting the warming temperatures kind of as an experiment.

    Also, pickling cucumbers planted.

    I'm curious to find out how you go with Pawpaw, they grow like weeds in the tropics but it's usually at least 6 months before they fruit.

    Me too. They are the only tropical-like fruit plant that will grow in Michigan - there's actually a city named "Paw Paw."

    Here, I think it will take several years before they fruit - assuming any survive the winter.

    I saw a lady trying to grow cauliflower in the tropics, they grew really well but never flowered. Just bunches of big green leathery leaves and nothing else.

    It's noon and I've planted 3 peach trees and done about 1/2 the chainsaw and clean up work from the last storm. I'm ready for a glass of water and a nap.

    Getting ready to make a tagelharpa.

    I have two really nice, clear pine planks (making two), and have the other components - bass guitar tuning gears, violin fine tuners, and, of course*, a 1/2 lb bundle of horse hair - on order.

    * "Tagelharpa" translates to "horse hair string instrument." Traditionally, the strings and bow are horse tail hair.

    Nice! What varieties are you planting? I grow garlic, German red hardneck. Right now I have about 40 bulbs growing. Last year all the bulbs were larger than a 1/4 lb. now I am planning what else to plant. Some San Marzano paste tomatoes, Tomatillos for Salsa Verde that I pressure can, and maybe some chilis.

    My outdoor stock tanks are leaking. I have line them before I can put my water lilies and rushes out. Dang nabit!
