I think I do that. Could you give an example?

like calling a same sex friend you’re close to baby girl/boy, babe, baby, sweetheart, hunny, sugar, bae etc. one of my friends (who has very conservative beliefs regarding freedom of choice, LGBTQ rights) said this.

Yeah, I do that. Slightly different terms, but same idea.

My lovely
My Love
My darling
Snookie Bookie when I’m trying to be annoying.

As long as they know we are platonic of course.

But she said it’s never OK platonically. I’m not listening to that though.

I guess if they don’t like it, that could be a boundary for them, but doesn’t make sense to say it’s never okay.

Don’t listen to them, Snookie Bookie.

I’m estimating boundary/personal belief, hunny buns.

Yeah I call my male friends sugarbutt. I'm just kidding :) I don't do that. Guys usually don't do that. We call each other things, for example, one guy I know, when I see him I shout "hey, ugly!". But with a smile, it's not a real insult. And he calls me something I don't know how to translate to English, but it's not pretty.

With Aussies you know they like you when they call you a bastard.

Mr. Stevens

It's platonic same-sex friend, @Atrapa Almas. And you call them by a pet name you'd usually use for a boyfriend or girlfriend.

I'm sort of the opposite. I call everyone by their real name. It can even be tough for me to use nicknames since it isn't "technically correct". At least it takes time to get used to them. This goes for family as well. I call my mother by her name, instead of calling her "mom", and have since I was a child.
