Walking around the neighborhood and standard warm up stretches.

How far do you walk (in either time or distance). I don't know what warm up stretches are standard. Presumably something that is useful to you.

Pain is a major part of getting into exercise. I'm pretty badly underweight (to the point of looking anorexic.) When I started I could barely walk 3 blocks without my lungs hurting badly. Now I can cycle 10 miles handily. You'll do OK once you keep going.

I also would say that if you stop anything that hurts, you'll have a really hard time ever acquiring the proficiency that means so much to you. Everything hurts at first. I learnt to shoot clay-pigeons and my first lessons were just wasted shells & bruises from where the gun kicked my shoulder. But now I can have fun & not embarrass myself.

Also--not everything is your own fault. I found out early on when I was cycling that I couldn't handle some of the steep hills here. Turned out my bicycle was set up with a gear ratio that only worked on flatlands. I had it altered for a minimal cost & then built up my strength to make it do-able.
