I see people saying they had been “gifted” VIP memberships. How does one get the “gift”?

It means somebody gave the membership to them. A present. Sometimes anonymous.

I'd imagine it was a man gifting them, as it's only women who get mystery upgrades as far as I can tell.

just so you know in the first few weeks when I was a member I was never gifted a membership I'm female
