"Happy" is a phantom that is used to keep people blaming themselves for life problems they had no control over. Read "Bright Sided" by Barbara Ehrenreich.

Interesting, I'll have to check that book out.

The book is all about how "happiness" has become a de facto national cult in the US, with one's job and thus life depending on always smiling and being "positive". If people think you are "sad" you get babbled at to "cheer up" and "Jesus loves you!" "Frown" at the wrong time and you're fired.

Interesting indeed. I always hate when people tell me to smile.

No one can be happy all the time, just like no one is sad all the time. Every day is different. Our emotions are like clouds that drift across the sky. Sometimes they are big clouds and sometimes they are little. They come and go but the blue sky above is ALWAYS there. We have to settle with being content to wait it out.

I feel the same, but it's not always easy to realize if the source of unhappiness is external or internal, sometimes, it is more external that we think. If the latter, we need to do our best to move ourselves to away from those external causes — even if sometimes proves to be quite a hard thing to do, for a variety of reasons.
