What is the most random song you have ever had stuck in your head for no reason?

My husband and I had the same song suddenly invade our brain and fly out of our mouths at the same time. It was really spooky. We were packing up our apartment to move to our new house and it was so quiet out of the blue we just started singing an old song that neither of us had heard for...

The term "Aspie" --is it offensive? What do you call yourself?

Anything honest and truthful is fine with me. It depends on the intention of the speaker. I find the term friendly sounding and descriptive and if it is being used for that purpose - Great! If the person using the term is attempting to offend then I would find it very offensive.

    How did you know?

I also had two jobs and no opportunity for a livable wage. Due to racism, ageism, sexism and my being autistic, the only job available to me paid only 1/4 of legal minimum wage and that was barely enough to cover job expenses to get to and from work. Due to hate crime and medical...

Can y’all see the old woman?

That is an old one I saw decades ago. Got it right away.

Why is everyone better than me

I read an article about an autistic teenage boy in Reader's Digest. It was written by his mother who asked him the question, "What does it mean to be autistic?" He replied that it meant he could do some things better than other people and other people could do some things better than him. If you...

Is online interaction draining for you?

No need to be sorry. It happens everyday. Online is not as scary as being bullied IRL. When the person in control, with the power to terminate your life or your livelihood, is in your face threatening you with harm, it's a major meltdown. In an online setting, one can just log off. I'm more...

Is online interaction draining for you?

I thought online would be less stressful, that perhaps I could relate and explore my uniqueness in the comfort of my own home with like minded people who would be willing to overlook my cluelessness and see me, not just my Aspergers, and accept me for who I am and see all the good stuff I have...

Can You Guess - What's That Mean?

I thought that was you! You're both beautiful! We really want to visit Montana's Blackfoot Rez someday. Can't think of a better one to depict your courage, strength, humor and tenacity. Amazing! You've been put through so much and have come through it all to be such an inspiration.

Can You Guess - What's That Mean?

I was so curious. I'm glad you are back to ducks. You earned that serenity. May we all get there. My husband also has several tattoos signifying his adventures and difficulties of his past. His lastest signifies our outdoorsy lifestyle in connection with nature and also his unity with his...

Can You Guess - What's That Mean?

Thanks @Bolletje, @Iamnotarabot and @George Newman for sharing! I expected there would be interesting stories of survivorship and whimsy and was not disappointed.

I am pretty bummed out today too. For Xmas, I sent an old friend a tin full of delicious fresh baked goods, including my most delicious batch ever of home made chocolate marshmellow fudge with walnuts that she keeps asking me for. It's been sitting at her local post office since Xmas because...

Can You Guess - What's That Mean?

There's a lot of cats out there and even though my introductory thread was titled "Hi, I'm One of Those Crazy Old Cat Ladies", mine's not one of them. I decided now might be a good time to tell why with a MEME thread. I'd like to invite you to show and tell what is special about your screen...

We enjoyed your recipe, it was quite filling. As a fellow ex-home health aid, your cooking is exactly what my patients would have liked. Still, no matter how good the food was, my patients always preferred juicy gossip more.

response from family members to coming out about autism

When she found out, the woman assigned to raise me made one half hearted attempt to "fix" me, by handing me a storybook about an autistic maid who always did exactly what she was told instead of what everybody else wanted and expected - just like I did. If only they would have read it before...

Can't you have one of those nice church ladies bring it over for you? Surely they'd enjoy chit chatting up one of those old biddies with a pot full of gossip to spice up your delicious soup.
