Things you enjoy that others typically dislike doing.

I'm quite the opposite. The further the air gets from my body temperature in either direction, the harder it is for me to handle. I dislike Summer and Winter, I'm most comfortable in mid Autumn and Spring.

    What do you collect?

    Cut gemstones.

Employer insurance does not cover ABA Therapy, what should I do now?

All of that, and because the way we function is how we are *able* to function. You don't pull a fish out of water and expect it to learn how to function better on land, you accept that it functions best in water and if you force it to be otherwise it will flop around, gasp, and cease to...

Things you enjoy that others typically dislike doing.

I love those things, (well social media is more of a need than a love), but in the words of the late John Lennon, Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.

Employer insurance does not cover ABA Therapy, what should I do now?

The safety stuff is one thing, but being concerned about one's future over things like stimming and eye contact should push you to want to change other people's perception of autism, not to change autistic people. Eye contact is not necessary for communication and forcing it is for the comfort...

Employer insurance does not cover ABA Therapy, what should I do now?

Most Autistic Communities that I'm a part of are strongly against ABA. It's important to listen to the people who are actually affected by a thing instead of focusing on how it benefits you personally. But that's all I will say about that...

Are there any smells you cannot tolerate?

I totally get that....I mean, I can tolerate it, but it's definitely not a pleasant smell for me. I see other people say they love the smell, and I'm over here thinking to myself, "Why, it smells like a 20 year old urine stain"

Are there any smells you cannot tolerate?

Perfume is the big one that comes to mind. I'm sure there are others but that's the really big one for me, they make my stomach turn and the smell clings and stays with me for hours. It's true of all perfumes, regardless of the scent (I can't tell most of them apart anyway), they're like an...

Things you enjoy that others typically dislike doing.

I don't know if this really fits into the obsessions and interests category, but I thought it was close enough to put it here rather than the general category. What sorts of things do you really enjoy doing that most people typically avoid or complain about? One of mine is grocery shopping...

    How do you walk?

One thing I forgot to mention, I walk as quickly as possible, and I find it physically painful to walk at an average pace. Not sure if that's related though.

What reactivates your attention & interest in your NT partner?

She does, yes, because she's the opposite, quiet bothers her, she needs to be constantly engaged in order to distract from her own issues. We do our best to accommodate each other as much as we're able, but it can be trying at times for both of us. Sometimes we play video games together...

What reactivates your attention & interest in your NT partner?

I can honestly say that despite how it sometimes appears, I never lose interest in my partner, I just go into a sort of "sleep mode" a lot. It's as close as I can get to shutting down without actually shutting down, and it's a necessity for me to keep from being overwhelmed. I'm still always...

I miss my childhood so much it hurts. Suggestions on how to cope please.

You might find yourself with more responsibilities, but there's no law that says you have to grow up. I'm nearly 40 and I still enjoy the things that were good about my childhood (video games, cartoons, giant bags of candy, etc.)

Do you really believe people want to help others with a disability?

I think there are those who want to help but to them that means little more than sharing or retweeting random memes and articles until the next "tragedy" catches their fancy, and I think there are those who genuinely want to help but their definition of help is not the same as ours because they...
