When did you realize that you're different for the 1st time?

Progster, Although I didn't have kids standing around me shouting "Why" at me, your story sounds an awful lot like mine! (Kids discovering that if they teased me, I lost my temper really quickly, and they thought that was funny, which made them do it even more). I wonder if that's a common...

    tattoos

If I did, I'd get the star with 'COWBOYS' on it...the rest, I think this guy is being waay too optimistic! (And I'm a Cowboys FAN!) :)

    tattoos

My father-in-law says I should get a tattoo of the Dallas Cowboys star, but I don't want to, simply because I can't stand pain. It hurts me! :)

    RIP Robin Williams 1951-2014

Hook makes me cry every time I watch it. And my wife said (on Twitter) that it's a good thing our VCR is broken (we have Hook on VHS tape, not DVD), because if we watched it, we'd both be bawling at the end.

I'm Autistic and Want To Join the Marine Corps.

If Asperger's is the only problem, I would agree with that. Now, my own personal experience (I tried to enlist three separate times) is a little different, because of depression issues (and the medication I take for them), as well as several other health issues, in addition to the ASD.

I'm Autistic and Want To Join the Marine Corps.

I'm assuming you're referring to the "Gomer Pyle" character, who was obviously mentally imbalanced. Keep in mind (other than the fact that FMJ is a movie) that the film was set during the Vietnam War, and there was a draft going on--basically, if your number came up, you went. Mental conditions...

Does This Drive anyone else Mad!

Nope, it's not just you. If I had a dollar for every time somebody had told me that, I'd be a millionaire...at least. :D

Does Your Employer Know You’re On the Spectrum?

I've only told one of my employers (Walgreen's) about it, and that was after I got in trouble-- I was busy stocking shelves one day, and a customer interrupted me to ask for something. Well, I was focused so hard on what I was doing that my response was very rude, to put it mildly. The...

The World Is Not What I Expected

I can sort of relate to what you're describing--in a way, it sounds a lot like my own life. I started reading at around age 4, and was always considered 'talented,' but my talents never really translated to the 'real world.' I started playing piano when I was a child because I had weak fingers...

    Favorite School Subjects

Weirdly, my favorite subjects were US History, English, and music. I say weirdly because number one, that seems like a very strange pairing, and number two, because even though I enjoyed the subjects, my grades (with a few exceptions) were never anything to brag about. Except in English...when...

When did you realize that you're different for the 1st time?

Earthsteward, Your kindergarten teacher sounds like many of my teachers! (If I had a dollar for every time I heard, "He's a smart boy, he just doesn't apply himself," yada yada...I would be so rich that it wouldn't even be funny! Never had a teacher like your second grade teacher...

How Did You React To Being Diagnosed?

Joshua717, I had many of the same problems when I was your age (I'm 43 now). If I had a dollar for every time people laughed at me because of my clumsiness, I would be so rich...it wouldn't even be funny! But, like you, when I was diagnosed, I felt like I finally had an explanation for why I am...

    Anyone obsessed with music?

I have similar issues, wyverary. Just yesterday, I was watching Twister, and the scene where "Dusty" has that TV on in his trailer, and Eric Clapton's Motherless Child music video was playing. And ever since then, I've had the lyrics that you hear (If I mistreat you, girl, I sure don't mean no...

Do you find dining out boring?

I have weird feelings about eating out--I like spending time with my wife, but by the same token, sometimes the awkward pauses in conversation are uncomfortable. We compromise by getting drive-thru/takeout whenever we can. (Which isn't often).
