About to be engaged to an Aspie... and worried.

I'm so glad you came back and updated this. I think that taking practical steps to improve your relationship is a great approach, because with or without a diagnosis, you and your bf will still be facing the same day-to-day issues. Best of luck with it!

Why is there an "S" in Island?

I know right? I think she was just trying to keep me busy for a while. I was a handful at that age. School nightmares are the worst! I still have nightmares about the school bus 30 years later.

Why is there an "S" in Island?

In fifth grade I got "aisle" wrong on a spelling test and my teacher told me to go look up the correct spelling in the dictionary. This is impossible if you're a 10 year old kid. I spent the rest of the class reading the "I" section of the dictionary. When I saw this thread I had flashbacks. :-)

    Asperger's and marriage

My husband and I have been together 27 years, and married for 25. I have Asperger's and he's NT. It hasn't always been easy but we both agree that it's worth it. Since I found out that I have Asperger's earlier this year, we've been making some adjustments in how we communicate based on my...

About to be engaged to an Aspie... and worried.

Glad you're enjoying the book! I loved his humor and honesty. Also, keep in mind that each person's AS is a little different so what your bf experiences is probably not exactly the same as those of us posting here or the Journal of Best Practices author. But the more you know, the better your...

About to be engaged to an Aspie... and worried.

Celina, I actually have written but not yet posted a long blog entry called "lessons from an Aspergers-NT marriage" where I tried to summarize the most important lessons my husband and I have learned. I could PM you a link when I post it (probably in 2 weeks, I'm just finished up a parenting...

About to be engaged to an Aspie... and worried.

I'm an aspie woman married to an NT man and I have to say that while I've learned to do some of the traditionally romantic things my husband considers important for him to feel loved, few of them are instinctive and there are a whole lot of things that just don't occur to me to do. However, my...

What Type of Thinker Are You? Quiz

Though I was split between As and Cs, I think my actual thinking style fits the description for A more closely than C. This was a really interesting quiz! I'm impressed at how much work must have gone into developing it.

What Type of Thinker Are You? Quiz

Are my results inconclusive? A - 3 B - 2 C - 3 D - 2 Actually for a few questions I had to choose an answer even though none of them was exactly what I would have come up given an empty answer box instead of a multiple choice option. For example, the word red doesn't bring up any...

    Visual Thinking

This is really interesting. I'm fascinated by the idea of thinking in pictures but I don't think I've really experienced it. The only thing close would be that sometimes when I'm taking an exam, I can see the pages of notes in my notebook and find relevant answers from my notes by visualizing...

    Aspies and Marriages

I don't get this either! Sometimes I "cheat" and buy semi-prepared food like marinated kabobs that we can just throw in the grill and be done with it. Which works great until someone loves them and asks for the recipe. Once I just blurted out "I have no idea - I got them at the Whole...

    Aspies and Marriages

I think this can cut both ways. Women, especially wives and mothers, are expected to be naturally nurturing, warm, and caring but I'm instinctively none of these. It's taken a long time for my husband to accept that I won't be the stereotypical June Cleaver-type wife and mother. OTOH, he knows...

    Aspies and Marriages

I've been married for 25 years to a neurotypical man who is as social as I am introverted. It hasn't been easy and we did come close to separating several times, only to find that we liked being married more than being apart. :D My finally getting diagnosed has made us both more understanding of...

Do you relate to animals more than people?

I can definitely relate. Recently I took my dog with me on a trip and it made traveling much less stressful even though it was a lot more work. I wish I could get her declared a therapy do so she could go to restaurants, etc. with me. A dog is great companion and also can be an icebreaker or...

How many of you are unemployed?

I run a small online media business (is that suitably vague enough? :D) and before that I taught martial arts. Both of my businesses grew out of my special interests so that's how I acquired the core skills. The rest of the skills required for running a business (bookkeeping, PR, etc.) I picked...
