    Med Holiday for a child?

We (as his parents) wouldn't be doing it without the help and consent of a dr. The reasons we want to try this are many. All of his meds were added one at a time over the course of about a year for various reasons. The zoloft was removed while he was hospitalized for suicidal ideations a year...

    Med Holiday for a child?

This is the fourth doc that has recommended keeping him on it. We would not be stopping them cold turkey...we would wean him down until it is safe. We have talked to the last two docs (over the last year) about getting him off meds/starting over. The first basically said "Nope. No point. He's...

    Med Holiday for a child?

I know what a med holiday is and what it is for, but would like to know, first hand, how hard is it? How hard is it on the child (in this case a 10 year old) to go through coming off of four meds? He's on Concerta 54mg, zoloft 100, geodon 40, and guanfacine 1. Also, for parents who have been...

    Asperger's and sneak eating

Christophe, So much of what you said requires a reply. I completely understand the compulsion to eat to fill some type of void. I've been there and know all to well the health ramifications. I commend you for taking control. It's one of the hardest things I've ever done, especially having...

    Asperger's parent

He has been hospitalized twice in two years for "suicidal ideations". Not only did he simply say he wanted to die or kill himself, he had ways. He told the doctors and us that he would make it look like an accident - "If I kick the top bunk of my bed hard enough, it will fall on me." Or, he...

    service dogs

We are in the very early steps of getting a service dog for our son. We looked into simply certifying our own dog as a therapy dog, but it didn't seem logical when he needs help out in public -- at stores, in school, museums, etc. -- places therapy dogs are not covered under ADA.

    Asperger's and sneak eating

Good thought. I'm sure it has to do with anxiety, but never thought it could be a type of stim.

    Asperger's and sneak eating

He sees a therapist weekly. He knows this has happened in the past and knows that he started again a couple of weeks back. I was just wondering if others have gone through this and what they have done or if they had any info regarding a link between autism and eating disorders.

    Asperger's parent

I completely agree. All of the things listed under AS are the dx used for specific psych services he receives. Most people don't know that all of these things all fall under the AS umbrella. No matter if they are diagnosed or not, he still shows the symptoms and signs. We just have to wait for...

    Asperger's and sneak eating

I'm sorry if this has been a recent discussion. I looked, but didn't come across anything that looked similar. My 10 year old sneak eats. A lot. He goes through spurts where he will eat completely normally during the day, but will wake very early in the morning and eat a days worth of calories...

    Asperger's parent

Hi! My 10 year old son has an official Asperger's diagnosis. We have been through a lot in the past few years in regards to his mental health and feared for his life several times. On top of the AS diagnosis, he also has depression, anxiety disorder, OCD, sensory disorder, social (something...
