    In your situation, they're just trying to be nice. In that example, they're probably right. Your logic that anything that has lasted a long time is eternal is false.

    I have generally happened to have my closest friends be 5-10 years younger than me, but right now, my best friend is older.

    LOL now that I reread it, that is what it sounds like. I was thinking of myself at work. I don't answer the phone or call people otherwise.

    We tell people they're on speaker even when they're expecting to talk to more than one of us, even when they want to talk to more than one of us. People should always mention it!
